Climate change impacts such as sea level rise and increased flood risk are bringing about drastic changes in housing markets. In this session, Fawn McGee will discuss the cost of acquiring--versus elevating--flood-prone properties in New Jersey’s riverine floodways to return them to recreation and conservation purposes. Chris Chopik will talk about appropriately valuing real estate by including flood risk in the cost. Allan Young will explore other methods of government-assisted transition which provide positive adaptive results without government purchase of the property. Moderated by attorney Christopher J. Dalbom, who will engage the panel in evaluating the legal implications of government relocation programs.
