Protecting Property Values: A Systemic Framework for Resilience Investment

Presented by Chris Chopik

The growing trend of frequent natural disasters in Canada has generated billions of dollars in annual property damage claims. This study offers a framework for property owners and municipalities to approach investment in creating resilience to these increasing risks. Based on extensive research combined with expert interviews this study shows that investment in resilient building systems is of critical importance in preserving asset value. The investigation revealed a unique approach to reducing loss of use and maximizing recovery and response capacity. This research is of value to builders, designers, architects, municipal planners, building managers, insurers, lenders, and most importantly property owners.
